Nominations open for new third award

Back

Pharmacy technicians are being encouraged to enter a new award for 2008. The APTUK Pharmacy Technician of the Year Professional award, supported by AAH Hospital Service, is now open to anyone working as a pharmacy technician in the UK health service, in both community and hospitals.

A new award is designed to recognise the technician who best exceeds the expectations of their role.

The new category will compliment the existing clinical and supply chain categories where entrants submit a paper on research or projects they have worked on within their pharmacy that can inspire their peers.

On the new award, AAH director Jeff Bulmer said: “We are looking for an exceptional person who has shown real commitment, performance and quality.

“We believe hospital and community pharmacists have much to learn from one another.”

The winner of the new professional award will receive a £500 educational travel bursary and one year’s membership of the APTUK. The other award winners will receive a £1000 education travel bursary and one year’s membership of the APTUK.

Sarah Wilcox, president of the APTUK, said: “The scale of entries for last year’s awards was remarkable. The level and quality of work undertaken by the entrants is an inspiration to their peers.”

Jeff Bulmer added: “The awards promote the impressive role that pharmacy technicians play in developing and improving pharmacy services and to encourage forward thinking and innovation.”

Further details and entry forms can be obtained by contacting Esther Joberns AAH Hospital Service, on 02476 432941 or esther.joberns@aah.co.uk. The closing date is 31st January 2009.
