About Us

Who are we?

Amalgamated Anthracite Holdings Ltd. was formed in Swansea in 1923, with interests in diversified markets including building materials, transport; warehousing and environmental services. Moving into the Healthcare sector in 1976 AAH acquired Hills Pharmaceuticals at which time it gradually sold off interests in fuel and building materials and expanded our pharmaceutical interest by taking over a large number of related businesses. We became AAH Pharmaceuticals Ltd  in 1985 and purchased Vestric to give us a nationwide branch network.

Celesio AG (formally GEHE AG), is our German based parent company and they are the largest pharmaceutical wholesaler in Europe who acquired AAH Pharmaceuticals Ltd  in 1995 and Lloyds Pharmacy  in 1997. This has provided a strong foundation for AAH to confirm its position as the UK's largest wholesaler.

AAH Hospital Service is a specialist division of AAH Pharmaceuticals Ltd who were originally formed to provide the contract price management necessary for our secondary care customers. We are now the leading distributor of pharmaceuticals to hospital pharmacies in the UK – a full line wholesaler providing a fast, efficient distribution service to NHS, private and prison hospitals throughout the country. Our vision is to be recognised as the UK’s hospital pharmaceutical supply chain partner of choice.

The Hospital Service Team

As a specialist division we have a committed team which enables our customers to serve their patients in the best way possible. We have built up a broad-based knowledge and experience of the needs of hospital pharmacies, which we use to continually look to improve our services and communications to our customers and partners.

Commercial Development

We have a dedicated team of Hospital and National Account Managers who cover all NHS hospitals, MoD, private hospitals and prisons throughout the UK. They liaise with all hospital procurement staff on a regular basis as well as being a first contact point for new and existing customers.

Our marketing function manages and creates the marketing solutions specific for secondary care, in order to help support our customers and our sales team achieve their common business targets. The marketing team also provide the necessary marketing communications required to promote the services offered by AAH Hospital Service into this specialised market area.

Channel Development

We also have a dedicated team of pharmacy technicians and technical specialists who are available to assist with key projects which have been agreed between AAH and our customers. Their knowledge of the pharmacy processes within secondary care and their knowledge of AAH ensures they are well positioned to facilitate any project designed to maximise the potential opportunities within the supply chain for pharmaceuticals.

Supplier Development

Our strength lies in our ability to effectively manage the entire supply chain on behalf of hospital suppliers, therefore streamlining the distribution process and getting the right product to the right place at the right time.

Through our investment in the latest technology and a commitment to clear communication, we build strong and mutually beneficial relationships with all our suppliers. This enables us to continually seek to improve the hospital pharmacy supply chain, from routinely used branded prescription products and generics to critical drugs and products requiring special handling.
